A little about me:

When I was 5 maybe 6 years old my Uncle Frank gave me a book about insects and the images were fascinating to me. I never knew there were so many different shapes, sizes, colors, types, etc.  This is  the earliest memory I can trace back too when it comes to my love for the creepy crawlies.  I do remember catching dragonflies when we lived in Florida and letting them loose in our house.  My poor mother! Lets fast forward a number of years and I just purchased my first macro lens.  The Canon 100mm macro… what a great lens! I had the Canon 20d at the time and we were living in Okinawa. This shot was taken as part of an assignment for a photography class I attended.   As part of the assignment you had to introduce yourself, explain what you wanted to do, setup the shot, interact with the subjects and let them go on about their day.  The main goal was to get you, the photographer comfortable about approaching complete strangers and making them feel comfortable in front of the camera.   Read More

Shopping around for strobes… what a nightmare it can be!  So many brands, so many choices.  Even though my first strobe purchase was the Elinchrom Ranger RX/AS I wasn’t fully committed to the idea I had to stay the same brand of lights.

I’ve owned the Elinchrom Ranger for a few years now. It was my first real investment in to the Elinchrom product line. I did a ton of research trying to decide which portable battery pack system would meet my needs. I looked at everything from the Paul C. Buff Vagabond with an AB 800 to the Profoto Acute packs. The Hensel Porty wasn’t in my budget but it was a consideration I just needed to save a little more money and wait. Read More
