When I was 5 maybe 6 years old my Uncle Frank gave me a book about insects and the images were fascinating to me. I never knew there were so many different shapes, sizes, colors, types, etc.  This is  the earliest memory I can trace back too when it comes to my love for the creepy crawlies.  I do remember catching dragonflies when we lived in Florida and letting them loose in our house.  My poor mother! Lets fast forward a number of years and I just purchased my first macro lens.  The Canon 100mm macro… what a great lens! I had the Canon 20d at the time and we were living in Okinawa. Here is an image from the black series. Different lighting than the white series. Have a look to see how it was lit. Read More

battery powered, Elinchrom, lighting, pack, ranger, strobe

I’ve owned the Elinchrom Ranger for a few years now. It was my first real investment in to the Elinchrom product line. I did a ton of research trying to decide which portable battery pack system would meet my needs. I looked at everything from the Paul C. Buff Vagabond with an AB 800 to the Profoto Acute packs. The Hensel Porty wasn’t in my budget but it was a consideration I just needed to save a little more money and wait. Read More
