It’s a beast! My first experience with the 85L MK 1 was a few years ago and I was not impressed. I rented the lens, shot with it on the Canon 5D and I just didn’t get what all the hype was about over this lens. Fast forward a few years and I’m here to tell you, I now understand why this lens is so special. Read More

There are times when you need a little extra reach and a 200mm lens can do the trick.  I’ve owned the Canon 70-200L IS  F/2.8 MK1 and it was a great lens.  This lens,  at 200mm is sharper than my 70-200L was.  If you are in the market for a nice telephoto lens and you want something very close in performance to the Canon 135L but with more reach, then you should continue reading this review. Marco photography as I’ve mentioned in a previous post is pretty amazing to me. To be able to see things magnified which you can’t see with the naked eye fascinates me to no end. If you are in the market for a macro lens, don’t pass up Sigma’s line of lenses. Read More

A little about me:

When I was 5 maybe 6 years old my Uncle Frank gave me a book about insects and the images were fascinating to me. I never knew there were so many different shapes, sizes, colors, types, etc.  This is  the earliest memory I can trace back too when it comes to my love for the creepy crawlies.  I do remember catching dragonflies when we lived in Florida and letting them loose in our house.  My poor mother! Lets fast forward a number of years and I just purchased my first macro lens.  The Canon 100mm macro… what a great lens! I had the Canon 20d at the time and we were living in Okinawa. Lots of bugs!  I didn’t have a clue about macro photography.  Read More

This shot was taken as part of an assignment for a photography class I attended.   As part of the assignment you had to introduce yourself, explain what you wanted to do, setup the shot, interact with the subjects and let them go on about their day.  The main goal was to get you, the photographer comfortable about approaching complete strangers and making them feel comfortable in front of the camera.   Read More

In this setup there was a combination of strobes, reflectors, and modeling lights. I also used a Paul C. Buff Einstein strobe for the first time. Very cheap fabric can produce great backgrounds! Read More
